Help Me Out Here, Please

Ok, I officially can no longer fit into any of my pre-pregnancy jeans/pants. The day I could no longer button my last pair was a sad, sad day. So now I'm on the hunt for some maternity jeans. I can't wear the ones I wore with Tristan because, well, they are waaaay out of style and quite embarrassing. With Asher, I borrowed some from a friend (who now lives in Panama), so that won't work. Now that I have to get some, I have no idea what kind to buy. This is where the "help, please" comes into play.

I've been looking online at maternity jeans, and Old Navy has some really good prices. Thing I don't know is if they are actually decent jeans. I mean, do they fit well? Do they look ok? Do they hold up? I need to find out from someone who has actually bought them because we don't have an Old Navy maternity here local. I'm so nervous to order jeans online without trying them on first.

I would love to get some super cool designer maternity jeans like Seven, Mama Black, Maternal America, or Juliet Dream, sadly, it's not in the budget. I think Channing would get a little upset if I came home with $100 or $200 maternity jeans. Or maybe he would make those jeans my entire wardrobe. Either way, not a good thing. :)

So, any advice on affordable maternity jeans? Old Navy, have you tried them? Motherhood....what did you think? Any specific things I should be looking for? What were your favorites? Least favs? Again, if your favorite pair was Citizens of Humanity...keep it to yourself. :)

Thanks, ladies!!!

I, personally, could never make myself buy any really expensive maternity jeans so I got some from Motherhood Maternity. I thought they were fine. It seems like I did buy a pair from Old Navy, too, but I can't remember. I thought the ones I had were pretty comfortable, considering. :) I would be happy for you to try mine if you'd like, but I almost bet they'd be too big for you. The offer is open, though. Just let me know!

Hey Annie,
I have not been happy with any of my jeans this time, but I'm just really hard to fit, plus I will not spend a lot of money on any maternity clothes. I wanted to tell you, though, that the Alabaster Old Navy does have a maternity section in the store. I know that is not exactly convenient for you, but if you are out this way, it might be worth stopping to be able to try them on.

my favorite pair of maternity jeans were actually from target - the selection is hit and miss but sometimes you can find some cute stuff. i got a pair of pants from The Gap (much on sale) and loved them so I would think the Old Navy ones would be fine too. If you're going to order on line check out couponcabin.com to get the codes for free shipping and % off - sometimes they have Old Navy and others on their site. Lastly, I bought most of my stuff at motherhood just because it's so darn cheap - and was pretty happy with most things I got there. Happy Maternity Shopping! (ps - talk to Jenni and she what she has - she had super cute maternity clothes)

OH, the jeans thing. It's so hard. I never could find good ones with Olivia and Landon. I just buckled down and bought the expensive ones with Lillian. Worth every penny...then I sold them for about %50 of what I paid for them on ebay afterwards. Not too bad. Gap has maternity at the Galleria. You could go try some on there!?
Good luck with that. Soon you'll be able to just wear cotton dresses and shorts! THat's what I did being due in June with Lillian....

Hope you find some GREAT ones! :-)

I got the best pair when I was preggers with owen from Old Navy. Love, loved them- as in they were stapled to my body. So, I would trust them- and you can always send them back, if not.
I'm anti motherhood jeans, but that's just me...
I can't remember what jeans I wore with Harris- probably because I was chasing a crazy one year old. I'll see if I can remember for you. And have you checked out the belly band thing? You can still wear regular jeans and just leave them unbuttoned and wear that band thing to cover up the gap. I didn't have one, but I definitely will if I find myself in that condition again. :-)

My favorite maternity jeans were from Motherhood Maternity and they lasted and looked nice. I got the ones that look like real jeans but have the elastic band. I hated the ones with the belly panels.

I know it's a hike for you but the Alabaster Old Navy has a maternity section. I would recommend the full belly panel jeans. I know they are least attractive but I had a pair that had the below the belly panel and I always felt like they were falling off.

Annie-I really liked the Old Navy jeans when I was pregnant. If you order them and do not like them-you can still take them back to the store-even if it does not have a maternity section. If you go home anytime soon, the Old Navy in Dothan has a maternity section. Good Luck!

Over my 4 pregnancies I would have to say that Old Navy/Gap are my favorites. I borrowed my sister's clothes from there and it seemed like Old Navy was just as great as Gap, and the pants were super comfy. Their elastic never bunched or twisted. All the clothes I bought came from Target, the Liz Lange maternity, simply because I love Target and could pick up a shirt or whatever then grocery shop. You can usually find some maternity on the clearance rack. But I say if you found a good deal on Old Navy, go for it.

I LOVED my Old Navy jeans. They fit great and I think they looked pretty good too. I ordered several things online and then did some returns to the Alabater store. It is a haul but it can be worth it. If you are going to go I would call them or someone who lives out that way. I went once and found tons of stuff and once they had nothing. Lots of my stuff was from Old Navy and I loved it. I also had some black pants from Target. I had problems with the band rolling down. That was bothersome, but for the price I could put up with it. I would let you borrow my maternity clothes, but they are already on loan. So sorry. Happy shopping!

my fave mat. jeans were from motherhood. but i also found a wonderful dark pair of jeans at jcpenney of all places- at the galleria. it's the bisou bisou brand maternity- so cute!
the thing about motherhood mat. - i LOVE their secret fit belly BUT it's best for when you are really big- before i got really big, they band kept rolling down (much like panty hose- super annoying) i ended up folding it 1/2 way down and that helped tremendously. the jeans were a life saver when i reached whale size though :).
have you tried that bella band thing so you can wear your current jeans a little longer? i never had one to try but i have heard great things about it.
i bet you look soooo adorable!!! wish i could see you!

Motherhood-ehhh, mine are ok
Mi Mi-my fav pair. and no, didn't pay full price. got them at consignment

also got a great pair at Ross. they were cheap, but a really dark wash, fit good, and are long enough. been wearing them everyday. $13.99. who cares if they fall apart.

I found most of my clothes this past pregnancy at Target. The pants I got there were really cute. I wish I could get them to you. I did have some from Motherhood. They were the kind that stretched over my tummy. I liked them b/c I could wear them following my pregnancy and be comfortable. Don't worry, I've put up all of my maternity clothes now. It was amazing to me just how much I didn't like my clothes from my first pregnancy and my babies are only two years apart.

BTW......I still need to know that Channing has seen the Goonies.

I love Old navy maternity clothes! The great part about the jeans is that they can come in petite lengths, which is great because I am 5'2". I used their size chart online and it was accurate. My favorite styles are the elastic band under the belly.
I have NEVER been happy with Motherhood stuff on me and they WILL NOT take it back or even exchange it if you don't have the receipt - even if the tags are still on.
Since I am on #4, it looks like I should have bought the designer pair a long time ago - HA!

I like my Old Navy jeans also. It seems from everyone's responses that those are the most popular. Their sizes are pretty accurate I think. I love that they carry a variety of sizes. I didn't necessarily love their selection though....not a lot of dark jeans. I got mine in Georgia.

I recently got a pair of jeans at Belk at the Pinnacle. They have a small maternity section. They get their jeans and maternity stuff from another source (in other words another company sends in maternity clothes for them to sale)so they are not traditional "Belk" brands and (at the time I went) they had some trendy but afforadable jeans. I think their selection changes often so who know what they may have when you go. I felt like the ones I got were a little more slimming, dark, and dressier.

Maternity pants and jeans are just awful in my opinion! I've tried on ones at Target, Mimi, Motherhood, Old Navy, etc. etc. I haven't found any that I love. I literally have three pairs of dress pants and two jeans and I just keep rotating them. I hate how baggy the maternity pants look in the butt and legs....annoying! Oh well, luckly only 10 weeks to go! :)

Good luck and happy shopping!!

I didn't really read everyone's responses, so I'm sorry if I offend anyone...but I hated my Old Navy maternity jeans! They were supposed to be "low rise" (which what does that even mean for a pregnant person?) Anyway, they were always falling down on my hips but the next size down was too tight in my thighs!! ughhh! The most comfortable pair I had were from Motherhood and they weren't that expensive! My only complaint was they didn't come in long, but you should be ok with reg length!! Good luck!

Thanks, ladies, for your overwhelming response to my dilemma. It sounds like I need to go to Motherhood and Old Navy and try some on. I may try Gap too, but when I checked before Christmas, they were pretty pricey (for me, anyway). I did end up ordering some off ebay. Let's see how they work out. :) I'll need more than one pair, though, because I LOVE jeans; definitely my favorite clothing item of choice.

Length was mentioned by some of you, and that's always been a problem with me. I'm only 5'4", but I guess my legs are a little long for my size? Maternity jeans often end up too short. That was my problem when I tried a friend's maternity jeans. I think they assume that if you wear a size small, you must be really short. I don't get it.

During my pregnancy with Asher, I got some Target maternity clothes, and the shirts did great, but every pair of pants I got from there fell apart. Either the buttons would fall off or holes would appear. CRAZY! I like the fit of some of their pants (their jeans didn't work for me), but they fell apart. :(

I hear the secret fit jeans are awesome. I'll have to try those.

Ok, so you all gave me great things to think about. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Oh, and it's nice to know that if I order online from Old Navy (which I hear from everyone has GREAT maternity clothes), i can return them at the store. Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Thanks, everyone!!! :)

Oh, and I ended up ordering Citizens of Humanity off of ebay. I got a good deal and HAD to try them out. :) I DID NOT pay anywhere close to retail, though. No way I'm paying $200 or more for jeans...NO WAY! Not maternity jeans anyway.
Ok, who am I kidding? The most I've ever spent on jeans was $115, and that was pre-kids. Not these days. Oh well...

Annie,
I have to tell you that I LOVE Old Navy maternity jeans. The ones with the big (like, 4 inch) band of elastic at the top are great - so comfy and you can wear them after pregnancy (I won't admit to how long) with long tops and no one's the wiser. And you can't beat the price.

By the way, if you order then online and they don't fit, you can return them to your old navy store (even if they don't carry maternity).

Good luck - and you should totally post a picture of you in your new preggo jeans ;)
