Happy Thursday to you! I'm back for another weekly installment of my random thoughts...just strange and random things that have popped into my head this week. Some are more profound than others. How disappointing would it be to go to a wedding only to be served a cake of chicken mcnuggets? I don't know about you, but I would not be happy about that. Sure it's easier to slice, but come on...chicken mcnuggets???
Is it just me, or does The Price is Right give away crummy prizes? I mean, the show's been on for decades, and they still give away the same 1970s style furniture. Step it up, Price is Right. I want to see some real prizes. Maybe then I'll start watching again.
Be careful when criticizing things to others. You never know when you may be criticizing that person without even knowing it. Case in point, about seven years ago when Channing was in chiropractic school, I was shopping with one of his friend's wives. We were at the mall, and I saw a wall full of character socks for adult women. So I said, "Can you believe how many of those socks they have? Who would buy those?" Um, yeah. So we get back to my condo and sit down on the couches. When we do, I notice that she has on *gasp* character socks! Yep, pretty embarrassing (for me, of course...not because she's an adult woman with character socks on). Thing is, this type of stuff happens all the time. I've had it happen to me, and I'm sure you've had it happen to you. I think it's the worst, though, when you're the one doing the criticizing.
So, if you're like me, you wonder...who buys all that junk off t.v.? You know..., all the crazy commercial and infomercial stuff. Well now I know. My papa and my brother's girlfriend. My papa buys it from CVS and gives it to everyone for Christmas, and my brother's girlfriend asks for it for Christmas. Very interesting... Oh, and the lady that goes to Joyce Meyer's seminars!
Remember when it was the "it" thing to wear a bell around your neck all during December? Did you do that? Was that big in your town? It was in mine. Everyone everywhere would be jingling every place they went. They were always gold bells with red rope. We also all wore sweatshirts with a bear on them (purchased from a fabric store, cut out, hot glued on and outlined in gold glittery puff paint). Oh man, I SO wish I had a picture. That was so cool!
One of our patients gave us a fruitcake for Christmas. Let me start this by saying that I think that is SO sweet. She even made it herself. However, when Channing brought it home and told me, I did chuckle a little bit. I mean, I don't know about you, but when I think of fruitcake, I think of all the jokes made on tv and movies. I also thought back to an article I read in the newspaper a week or to ago detailing how the fruitcake business is currently suffering. Anyway, I just thought it was kinda funny. Am I alone in this??? *Let me clarify that I do not think it's funny that any business is struggling. I just had no idea that the fruitcake had its own business. Where have I been?*
I love York Peppermint Patties. I really do. I could just sit and eat them all day. And, as a matter of fact, they don't actually have to be York. I also like Pearson's. Santa, please fill my stocking with peppermint patties!
Football season is winding down, and in a few short days, it will be over. That makes me so sad. I mean, what will I listen to on the radio? What will I do on Saturdays? At least I have until February to keep up with recruiting. Then, it's just the dead zone. Who woulda thought that the preseason #1, Georgia, would have such a disappointing season? Who woulda thought that Alabama, a preseason #24, would spend the last few weeks of the season in the #1 spot and finish the season with one loss...a loss in the SEC championship? Who woulda thought that ol' Auburn would force out Tubs for Gene Chizik? I mean, who in the world is Gene Chizik?! Listen, I'm not a big Tubby fan, but come on...Gene Chizik?! The guy has lost 10 straight games! Oh well. At least he'll provide some entertainment until next year's football season begins, and maybe even more once he gets going. :) Ooops, got off on a tangent. Anyway, farewell college football. You will be missed.
I'm surprised my mom hasn't been on my page to vote 50 times that we should find out what we're having. She probably hasn't thought of it. Now I've probably given her an idea.
Christmas is seven days away, and I've yet to buy a single present. Thank goodness God has already given us our greatest gift, right??? ;) Also, haven't done Christmas cards this year. I've been SO busy, and our budget has been extra tight. If you don't get a Christmas card from me, just know that I still love you and wish you the greatest Christmas ever!
That's all I got. What about you? Any great random thoughts to share??? PLEASE share. They make my day. I think I'm going to start having a "Random Thoughts Hall of Fame" award or something. A few of you leave me thoughts every once in a while, and I love it!

what i think it funny about price is right is that they still have cheezy cardboard looking games. I thought when they got a new host they would make it look more "current" with some cool new computerized games and stuff - nope - still the same ol' games Bob Barker always used!
Ok Annie, I haven't commented in a while....
1. I voted keep it a surprise. Take it from someone who has done it both ways and LOVED the surprise more than anything!!!!! I wish I hadn't found out the first 2 times around!!!!!
2. I stick my foot in my mouth all the time. :-)
3. I used to wear my bell around my neck with the red rope. I now have passed it down to my daughter. Though, she is ONLY allowed to wear it on Christmas eve....we've adjusted a bit! :-)
4. Who's wedding only served cake and mcnuggets?????
5. I love the Price is Right...sad to say I haven't watched it since Bob Barker stepped down. :-( So I haven't noticed the prizes lately...
6. I don't buy junk off T.V. (though I want to ALL the time!!) but my mom bought Sheer Cover off an infomercial once and got me hooked on mineral makeup!! Thus began my obsession..... :-)
7. Peppermint and Chocolate go GREAT together...i eat on a daily basis. YUM!!!
Merry Christmas!!!
Ok- my neighbor also buys the things off TV and QVC. I see the UPS man there EVERY day.
Chicken McNuggets? WHAT??
I vote to find out, but that's just me.
Owen made a jingle bell necklace yesterday on his field trip and I had to pull the bell out of Harris's mouth this morning. So, no, we will not be sporting those this year! ha!
And I don't really remember wearing them as a child... But the puffy sweatshirts... oh yeah... painful memories.
The tv commercials for all the products just crack me up. :)
But Lindsay, like you, I did order make-up from an infomercial. I have also ordered workout videos through the years (how else would I get Billy Blanks' awesome workouts?). :)
The chicken mucnuggets cake came from one of the new McDonalds commercials. They show a wedding where the couple has a chicken mcnugget cake, and I was thinking how disappointing it must be to be a guest at that wedding.
Hil, you remember the sweatshirts! Oh my, painful indeed. What was the south thinking???
I hear both of you on the bell thing. Lindsay, smart to limit the use...keeps us parents sane. :) Hil, smart to take it away since it became a choking mechanism. Hmmmm...kind of takes the joy out of the jingle.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts, ladies. Makes my day!!!
Oh, and Michelle...you are SO right! You would think they would update the games. Nope, just like the prizes, they're the same 'ol games. Must be a low budget show. :):):)
The news was on talking about Chizik, and Austin looks over to Barry and asks,"Auburn hired a Cheez-it?" So now we refer to him as Gene Cheeze-it.
I voted to NOT find out what you are having. You held out for two surprises...why not a third??? You can do it!!!
hey- i am catching up on everyones blog. been so busy. Congrats! on baby # 3. Merry X'mas to you and the fam! love the b'day cake to Jesus...who made that? our homemade cakes don't come out looking so good. love
