Thursday's Random Thoughts

Happy Thursday to you! I'm back for another weekly installment of my random thoughts...just strange and random things that have popped into my head this week. Some are more profound than others. :) So here goes:
Big news! Madonna and Guy Ritchie are getting divorced. Wow. Didn't see that one coming. I mean, they just seemed the perfect couple. If they couldn't make it work, how in the world can the rest of us expect to?

I have been pleasantly surprised this year when I've made my trips to grocery stores and Target. Every year, I am appalled at the horrible scary Halloween decorations that bombard my boys and me as we walk in the doors of the stores. Last year, I couldn't even take my boys in Target or Winn Dixie. The stuff was EVERYWHERE! There was so much evil stuff and it went on for so long that I spent every shopping trip covering their eyes. It was awful. This year, the scary stuff has kind of been moved to the back. I am impressed.

Has anyone seen the infomercial for 'Listen Up'? It's a listening device, and the infomercial is somewhere between hilarious and quite disturbing. The commercial tells people that they can use the device to listen to conversations people are having across the street (ummmm....eavesdropping) and to what people in the gym are saying ( they show some weird guy listening to some women talk about how cute he is. EEEEEW). The infomercial creeps me out and cracks me up at the same time. If you haven't seen it, you've got to be on the lookout. It's CRAZY!

A lot of bloggers do this thing called 'Wordless Wednesday'. The thing is, on nearly every blog I've seen who participates, they have paragraphs explaining their pictures. Um...what am I missing here? The title 'Wordless Wednesday' seems to imply that there should just be a picture...hence, wordless. I don't get it. Am I missing something?

My family and I love eating at Firehouse Subs. My boys enjoy the food, and I enjoy the cups. Each cup has a story about a fireman who has performed an act of heroism and saved a life or lives. It is so encouraging! Kudos to you, Firehouse, for sharing the stories of these heroes!

Our cable provider totally changed our channel lineup today. I am so confused. Where are my favorite channels? What was wrong with the old lineup??? Do I really have to learn new channels?

My favorite line from last night's debate: "Senator Obama, I am not George Bush. If you wanted to run against George Bush, you should have run four years ago." John McCain

Channing and I watched The Bucket List last weekend. I have to say...I really disliked it....a lot. I just didn't like it at all. The language was horrible, and it was incredibly depressing. I mean, really depressing. I cried for like an hour. Yeah, I wish I had missed that one.

Will someone please explain to me why some people (usually women) wear shoes that are too small? I just don't get it. I think it looks really strange when I see a woman wearing sandals where her feet are hanging an inch over the back. I have a family member who is really bad about wearing shoes that are a good size too small. When people do this, do they think they're fooling the rest of us into thinking they really have a smaller foot? I mean, are they like me in wishing they had those super cute size 6 1/2 feet? Thing is, it doesn't matter how small you wish your foot was and how small the shoes are that you buy, if your foot hangs off the back, you're not fooling anyone. You're just someone with a big foot whose shoes are too small.

A lot of people refer to their spouses as 'baby'. I can't do it. Can not. I am not a 'baby' kind of girl. I don't have a problem with other people calling their spouses 'baby', I just can't bring myself to say it. I've tried. It didn't work. It is just completely unnatural for me. If you hear me say 'baby', you can be pretty sure I'm talking to one of my boys or pointing out a nearby baby.

Along those lines, I also can't bring myself to use texting and emailing lingo. My main example...LOL. I just can't do it. It makes me so uncomfortable. Again, I know a lot of people who use it. It doesn't bother me when others write it, I just can't. It feels so awkward. LOL. Just typing it here makes me cringe a little. You can send me a message with it, and I'm totally fine. I get it. You thought that was funny. Great! Just expect a big "I'm laughing so hard right now" from me.

Any random thoughts to share? If so, don't be shy! Leave them in my comments section, or better yet, make your own list and link us back. Happy Thursday!

Why can I clean my house, turn around and it looks like a tornado has blown through?

Why does it feel like a foreign country when I walk through the middle of the mall? No, I don't want one chunk of my hair straightend. No, I don't want the aromatherapy neck warmer draped around my neck. No, I don't want to have my hands scrubbed with Dead Sea Salt! No, I don't want your nuts, hair piece, scalp massager, etc......!!!!!!!!!

Yea for Mrs. Hopper! Someone else has random thoughts! :) Thanks for sharing!!!

Rachel, you're so funny! I don't mind other people saying, I just can't say it. It is completely unnatural for ME. :)

Holly, you crack me up. TTFN? Ta Ta for now? I am so out of the loop when it comes to all that texting lingo. I had a friend who used to always type "ROFL". Seriously, it took me like two months to figure out what that meant. I'm clueless.

Rachel, I meant to put the word baby in my response. My brain has left my body...again.

My pet peeve is when toes hang over the front of shoes. Seriously? If your toes are that long please find some different shoes. I get that some are made that way. That doesn't mean you have to wear them.

I was literally laughing out loud as I read this. I TOTALLY agree that LOL does not do "laughing out loud" justice!! I don't think people are really laughing out loud...I just think they want to make others feel funny.
And the shoes thing...what, do you live in my brain??? I think the same thing ALL the time!! It's like when people wear jeans that are a few sizes too small just b/c of what the tag says!! It may feel great to buy that smaller size, but when you can't breathe all day, I'm sure they regret it! Keep it coming, Annie!! I needed that laugh today! :)

Jeremy and I were just cracking up over the "listen up" the other day. I like how the commercial shows them being able to "zone in" on the conversations they like and the rest is just quiet background noise - how does it know what you're trying to listen to? I also liked the lady in church with the "ear piece" in - you totally see 65 year old women in church with a phone piece attached to their ear everyday! Somebody is probably making a lot of money with this thing - amazing!

ok - I just looked at your blog again and realized that I am talking about a totally different commercial - but a very similar product - only difference is the device looks like a blue tooth (sp?) phone!
